1. Research two professions you are interested in pursuing. Begin conducting research via California Career Zone https://www.cacareerzone.org (Links to an external site.) and utilize “Search” (on the top right-hand corner) also utilize the US Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics https://www.bls.gov/ooh/ (Links to an external site.) website.
Feel free to use other career search sources such as Indeed, Linked In, and others. Based on your research follow the evaluative criteria and synthesize
the following into the narrative of your paper:
a. Summarize the job type;
b. Preparation required (type of degree and number of years it will take to earn your degree);
c. Job outlook;
d. Salary range; and
e. Skills you should possess.
2. Write a 2-3 page paper (not including cover page and works cited) and include the following:
Provide a description of the two professions you researched (the above information), and indicate which of the two is your most preferred (dare I say, your dream job?….I know some of us don’t dream of labor, lol, but some of us are excited to get into our dream job).
This description needs to be more detailed than “working with kids.” State the title of the occupation; what type of company/organization you might work for; the community you plan to serve (Kern/LA County or otherwise) areas of responsibility; and any other details important to you when envisioning your career path.
If your dream job does not exist, outline it just as you would a conventional job. (I.E. Maybe you want a job that doesn’t exist when you conduct your research, build (create) the job out as one of your two options and follow the rest of the evaluative criteria).
Based on information and topics covered in class (developmental milestones, observation methods, career options shared by our guest lecturers) consider how your knowledge, interests, values, skills, personality traits, and strengths that you possess will be applied in this career.
How do our discussions of equity and cultural competency factor into your career search and plans? How will being mindful and committed to equity, diversity, and cultural competency be necessary for your chosen field? Discuss for each career choice.
Consider, and include, whether you will need graduate study and/or additional training. If so, explain what type, and how you can increase your chances of being accepted to graduate school if required.
Your conclusion should sum up what you have learned from your research and what you plan to do with this information in pursuit of your career goals. For instance, you might find that you are now even more interested in another aspect of the CAFS career field, or that you have no desire to work with children whatsoever; or you might discover that you need to complete more research/training.
