Now it’s time to put your skills to use. Your assignment is to participate in an online discussion forum. While some aspects of discussion may differ from face to face versions, you still must follow the same basic guidelines learned in this module.
Part 1 – Answer the following Questions
In Their Eyes Were Watching God women have idealistic dreams while men dream more realistically; for example, Janie never gives up on finding perfect, true love, while Logan’s and Joe’s lifelong goals focus on obtaining material wealth and power. Do you agree or disagree that this is an accurate depiction of women’s and men’s dreams? Why do you agree or disagree? Give examples from the story to support your answer.
After reading “Harlem” by Langston Hughes, what do you think happens to a dream when it is deferred?
What is Janie’s dream? Do you believe she will accomplish her dreams? What do you think will happen if her dreams continue to be deferred?
Use one or two of the image comparisons in the poem “Harlem” to describe what was happening to Janie and her dreams while she was married to Jody. For example, was Janie and her dreams beginning to “fester like a sore”? Why do you think that? Use examples from the story to support your response.
What is your dream for the future? How will you accomplish this dream? What will your response be if your dream is deferred?
