In the 2016 presidential campaign, then candidate, Donald Trump ran on a platform of nationalistic rhetoric to “Make America Great Again.” This was essentially the same inward-looking campaign slogan Ronald Reagan had used in his run for President in 1980.
In 2-3 pages (750-1000 words), address the following questions:
Were these two men speaking to the same group of Americans? What did they think had “gone wrong” with America since World War II? Gone wrong for whom? Be sure to use specific historical examples. For whose benefit did they really want to make America “great” and who really benefits from their nationalistic conceptions of a “great” America?
