JAZZ PERFORMANCE REFLECTION
You must complete a 1-page jazz performance review reflection based on a YouTube video of this previously recorded live concert. You cannot earn an A without completing this “paper.” YouTube link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVNKQtPvv00 Joshua Redman, Brad Mehldau, Christian McBride, and Brian Blade “Live at the Falcon” JAZZ NIGHT IN AMERICA – 9/7/2019 (released 7/22/2020) 1. You are required to watch this entire concert, which is less than an hour. I recommend using headphones to avoid distraction and making every effort to watch it all at once without interruption. This will keep your experience as close to “live” as possible, and it will sound the best (especially the double bass). 2. You are required to write one Live Performance Reflection about this concert. It should be at least 1 page (12-point font, 1” margins, double-spaced). Please only write your name at the top using 1 line. Points are awarded based on a minimum length of 1 page after editing, and on quality of grammar, spelling, and content. Your essay should be treated as a professionally written article that describes various elements you observed during the concert or how the concert made you feel. The general direction of this is flexible. You may include musical concepts or terms that you’ve learned, if relevant. Pay attention to musical elements and things happening on stage. Don’t focus on what people were wearing or what the weather was like. Don’t resort to statements like, “It was sweet.” or “It wasn’t good.” Papers should be edited for grammar and spelling. Have someone else read it and suggest edits.
