The
movie ‘Crash’ is full of
sociological concepts, examining issues of race, ethnicity, social class, and
gender, as well as many other concepts.
Crash is one of those movies that make us rethink even what we think we
know about the world we live in. It
requires that we develop a sociological perspective (in which we must practice
a beginner’s mind). In the movie, you
can see Marx’s theory, “that conflict between social groups is central to the
workings of society and the engine of social change is one of the most vital
perspectives in sociology today” (Ferris & Stein, 2010, p. 40).
Select
a sociological concept to describe the movie or a scene in the movie. A
sociological concept shown in the movie Crash is: the Thomas Theorem which
tells us that if we believe situations to be real, they become real to us. Another sociological concept is the theory of
micro-aggression, defined as subtle insults (verbal, nonverbal, and/or visual)
directed toward people of color.
