What Are You Taking Away from this Class? How Will This Influence The Remainder of Your Educational Journey, Your Personal Life, and Professional Pursuits?
Throughout the semester, we have been exploring a range of topics related to Equity & Intersectionality, including social identities, inequities, race, culture, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, gender, ability status, health, and sociocultural influences on our lives.
In a 3-5 page paper (your papers are to be typed in 12 pt., Times New Roman font; double-spaced, with one inch margins), thoughtfully address the following:
Identify one aspect of your identity that grants you disadvantaged status in our society (e.g., race, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, ability status, health, education, citizenship status, or religion) and describe the ways the course material applied to, informed, supported, or challenged your beliefs and/or emotions about this aspect of your identity. Be sure to include specific examples of course material or class discussions. Also, if you feel that the course did not sufficiently or effectively address this aspect of your identity, feel free to express this and describe what you would have hoped for or preferred.

Consider and describe how you plan on incorporating the material from this class to the remainder of your educational journey and your career. Detail how you will continue to learn about and modify your behavior accordingly. Be sure to include concrete action steps you plan on taking that influence your communication and behavior and inform your learning about relevant issues. Also, indicate whether your specific decisions will affect change at institutional, interpersonal, or internalized levels and how you believe they will do so. In addition, add any related quotes from any of the course readings, videos, class discussions, projects, or other relevant material from the semester. (Note: you may decide that you will not apply any content from this class to your life, which is completely fine; in this case, thoughtfully describe why you are deciding not to do so. As long as your paper includes a thoughtful reflection about your decisions, your reasoning for these decisions, and examples of course material or class discussions, you will receive full credit.)
Describe the challenges you anticipate facing as you continue to encounter and engage these issues professionally and personally? How will you practice self-care and connect to a supportive community?
